Am I hallucinating, or did some shipping company actually try to haul and unload pig iron in a self-unloader years ago? If it happened, I suspect the combination of size and cargo density made any attempt difficult.

Escanaba still receives coal, limestone and salt by water (and nearby Gladstone still receives asphalt). It appears the Oberstar came from the KCBX dock in Chicago, so I suspect its cargo is coal. In regards to Green Bay, yes I believe all the product there is shipped from Toledo, Sarnia, and Nanticoke unless they also have a pipeline connection but I’m not aware of one.

If you followed last Fall trip to Seattle area they went way up and around NS. They ran into horrid weather. Will be interesting to see how long the Canso Canal run takes and if it can be done with no glitches.

Maybe Great Lakes Towing should consider doing a patriotic paint scheme on the Minnesota as well. I saw it recently in the Rouge and its not very old red paint looked severely faded already. I suspect that might have to do with the huge seagull population that hangs out near the tug dock.
