I imagine because it's a cost savings on Algoma's part.

It was in a CSL World publication a few years ago I think where they were replacing the top of the ship (tank top I guess), and applying coatings.

I can't imagine why they'd even consider that kind of money being spent on the Salarium.

She dates back to 1980 and has only seen routine maintenance since and no major renewal work and has spent a lot of time in salt water. Wouldn't the Atlantic Huron make more sense than her?

That would actually be the Heather Knutsen, 264m long, 46m wide. If you are looking for the largest Canadian flagged with duty paid vessel, it would be the CSL Spirit, which is a panamax vessel. The article clearly states the "largest ship of its kind, under Canadian Flag".

All the Canadian flag Trillium class vessels have stern thrusters.

This is the same shipyard that had numerous delays when Algoma was building their tankers (the two larger ones)... part of the equinox deal was that they were to convert money already invested in the tankers into equinox builds.

I would be shocked if one of them wasn't named CSL Trillium. then again, if you asked me a year ago. I thought they were all going to be named after the provincial flowers that CSL vessels service.

CSL's recent bulker names such as Saguenay and Richelieu don't use CSL. It's very possible if they reuse old names, there won't be a CSL prefix.
