Re: Montrealais Status

After the fiasco with the City of Toronto and the Jadran, I doubt any city will undertake having a rusty relic on its precious waterfront.

Re: The Sandsucker "Niagara II"

Fwiw..the Douglas was basically a hull only...no machinery or cabin structure. It had been reduced to barge status back in the 70's.

I worked on her during the 73 season. great way to see the lakes. Her size permitted her to visit quite a few ports: Montreal, Morrisburg, Kingston, Coburg, Clarkson, Windsor, Parry Sound, Britt [nice trip up the river!] the Soo. Fond memories.

Looks like she is headed downriver.docked at Frink Park, Clayton NY as of noon today. Also another large [160'?] yacht headed down through the 1000 Islands this afternoon. Maybe a delivery from the Palmer Johnson yard.

Re: D.C.Everest

I noticed from the engine room pics, the main engine did not resemble the usual opposed piston design from FB found in the 60's era lakers. Was this a different earlier model engine??. Also, there appears to be a large cylindrical "tank" at the end of the cylinder heads. Any ideas waht this was??

Re: Canadian wheelhouses stored not in use etc

I believe this topic has come up before..and I will mention one wheelhouse used as a cottage. The previous time I mentioned this, another poster said the structure was off one of the Key Line steamships. This particular wheelhouse sits on the north side of Stave Island and is visible from the 1000 ...

There was also the S.M.Douglas [a sandsucker], which was used as a breakwater for the Brockville Yacht Club [Ontario].She has since been raised, removed and resunk off ...
