Denny, i don’t have an answer on the sail date. I was in Sturgeon Bay last week. They did get a five year survey and new paint. Scaffolding is erected around both stacks. They are being widened to accommodate new exhaust components.

I grew up in Duluth in the 70's to 80's. There was always laid up US Steel boats in the harbor back then. I worked a job in the early to mid 80's which was at the former Hallet 7 dock. There were 4 USS boats laid up there, 6 over by the MP&L dock and 4 by Hallet 5 dock. One by one, the port crew ...

I watched the PI go out of Duluth on Friday and the 50-year logo was on the front side of the port bridge wing. Hope that helps!

From looking at the pictures, visible external items of value have been removed, noticeably, radars and the two whistles (horns) from the stack.

There were rumors in 1985 that the Blough was going to be scrapped. The Blough was laid up between 1981-87. The big difference between now and then was, western coal was doing well. I remember the homes were sold in the 90’s for a bargain basement price. They were moved by home movers. As I recall, all the homes were the same, other than the color. The overgrown remains of the streets are still there.
