With the Gott waiting for Saint Clair traffic to clear, I don't see the them being able to get through the locks to get back to Duluth for layup.

Lake Superior Convoy

I'm curious why the Lake Superior convoy chose the route they are currently on when the satellite pictures clearly show open water on the east and north side of Lake Superior? It appears that even the ice breakers are having a difficult time of it.

Re: Soo Area

I have stayed at tHe Lockview many times and it's decent. You do pay extra for being across the street from the locks. Their wireless Internet only works in the office area. The Long Ships Motel is another choice across from the locks.

I always stay at the Lockview Motel. No frills, but clean and across the street from the locks. One drawback, the Wifi is only availabe in the motel office.

Re: Roger Blough Hull Design

The Blough has a hull depth of 41'-6". It was built with a lower profile to load at the gravity docks at Two Harbors and Duluth. The belt loading systems at these docks came along later when the Gott and Speer were built. For comaprison, the Presque Isle's depth is 46'-6"; Stewart J. Cort ...

The Blough and Presque Isle still occasionally load at the gravuty docks in Two Harbors, shifting from North of #2 dock to the South of#1 Dock.
