Re: Pineglen bow symbol
Used same template on both sides of the bow, that's what happened. Instead of flipping it around to point opposite way.

Re: Canadian Vessel Lay Ups
On Algoma's recent 2019 Annual Meeting Webinar, they stated 2 ships would be in layup this season, so thought is those are the current ones laid-up now, Compass and Discovery. When the new Algoma Intrepid arrives next season along with the new 740' straightdecker from Jangzijiang Shipyard, 2 ships w...

Re: End of the linme for Salarium?
I believe the fitting of the Trillium-class S-U's with stiffening to upgrade them to Nova Scotia classification does mean the end is near for Salarium. The recent virus-related economy hit on cargo demands may have sealed it. Plus, she burns higher cost diesel fuel now. But fuel may not be as much o...

Only Baie St. Paul was upgraded to Nova Scotia class. She's in Halifax. Thunder Bay was likely in for 5 year drydocking.

Re: Algoma Winter Salt Runs
Last year Innovator, Niagara and Sault were running salt to very end of February, with Innovator last to layup in Sarnia March 3rd. With Niagara taking over St. Lawrence ore runs for Mariner this year, that leaves just Conveyor and Innovator on salt runs. If mild weather continues and ice doesn't ca...

Re: Salarium
I don't believe Salarium was repowered. The new forebody ships (Niagara, Laurentian, Assiniboine) were repowered with Mak Engines at Sturgeon Bay, with their spare parts going to other older ships. With the hull strengthening of Baie St. Paul for Nova Scotia trips, I believe this was a move to event...

Re: Great Lakes icebreaking yields frosty debate
These +/- icebreaker number games don't add up to me either. Canada also takes care of icebreaking the St. Lawrence River/Gulf, which also includes cargo destined for the US Market coming into these ports when the Seaway is closed for winter. US and Canada should be practical about this and come up ...

Re: Algowood and Capt. Henry Jackman
Keep in mind most of the Canadian boats spend more time in saltwater and go through 15 Seaway locks frequently. Saltwater affects ballast tank internals and locks do wear-n-tear on sides hull fore/aft corners. The Wood and Jackman would have been retired earlier if not for the delay in newbuild deli...

Re: Canadian Coastguard sending in the big boys
Since US and Canada share icebreaking task on the Great Lakes, develop a joint US/Canada icebreaker design and each build one. Share the design costs and have it built on a shipyard on the Lakes (U.S.) and Lower St. Lawrence (CDN). I know it may be a stretch to have both countries agree on a design,...

If I remember right, it was done so Collingwood could keep their build schedule. Have the bow section built simultaneously at Portship allowed Collingwood to set another keel for next build.

Re: 2nd Poe Lock ?
Keep in mind of the 15 Seaway Locks, 2 are US, with 13 being Canadian. Think of the financial benefit US ports & shippers gain by using the Seaway, which is primarily Canada-funded.
