Bad day not to have my camera with me, down by the Michipicoten today and they where putting a new main shaft in (thats what it looked like). Anyone know when the engine will get here?

Interesting mooring lines shown in this photo. I know they use fiber and wire rope together in layup mooring lines but is the one aft line a wire rope winchline looped through a fiber line eye with protection for what I presume is shock absorbsion?

What amazes me is after looking at the photos in the Lake Boat exhibit at the Grohmann Museum in Milwaukee, and these photos is how little draft the lake boats have when they are totally empty. They are drawing at most 3 or 4 feet of water.

That may be true for forward draft readings, but you can bet that's 13 or 14 feet aft. I have never seen a "laid up", pumped out lake freighter drawing that kind of water aft. Not even when they're doing work on the prop or rudder. The props alone on most of these vessels is at least 18 feet in diameter, if not larger.

Actually, given the size of the props, I would say that they are 5-8 feet deep, maybe a little more at the sterns

Algocanada is next to Montrealais, listed as in and out on demand
Ojibway, all shinny and clean is at Cargill
Michipicoten is a hive of activity, not much to take pics of

The stack cover is at goverment dock, in the above pic Dec 27 014.jpg (there is an other one in the ships in Sarnia thread) and here is a pick of the stack (someone can pass on the proper names) there are two lockers near the stack marked port and starboard. Which to me means they are going back in when work progresses. No sign of the engines yet but I am sure they are in town somewhere, keeping my eys open.
