This is not her 'last and final' voyage, she will carry at least one more cargo after this one.Denny wrote:Heads up to all of you tracking her and waiting to get photos of her last and final voyage. Re: Algoma Montrealais
Port Huron Vessel Passage page has them due their at 1440 or at 2:40 p.m. EST on December 12 and also has them due down at or near the Dossin Museum and Belle Isle at 1915 or 7:15 p.m. EST this evening on December 12. Should be at the Welland Canal on Saturday, December 13 sometime.

Re: Algoma Montrealais
She is now showing up on the AIS maps as being downbound above the Soo Locks. This is as of 3:15 p.m. EST on Thursday, December 11, 2014. Barring any delays at the Soo and for weather, should be downbound on the St. Clair River on Friday either late morning or early afternoon and Detroit River also on Friday probably late afternoon toward evening. Sorry that I can't go out and get her as I have family from out of town visiting to whom I have not seen in at least a year or more. Not complaining as I got to see the "classy girl" this year back in August and will send pics but, "not until after the holidays are over and things get back to normal and my schedule isn't as busy." Trust me the wait is worth it boatnerds as these photos will make you melt when you see them!

Re: Algoma Montrealais
Looked up on a Quebecois log book. Soo locks to Buoys 11&12 took 20 1/2 hrs add 1/2 to bridge so 21 hrs and she's still not at Soo Locks yet. Hope this helps

Re: Algoma Montrealais
Trying to figure out with my bad math skills, but if there are no major delays at the Locks and it has a good run on Lake Huron, the Algoma Montrealais should be making a day passage down the St. Clair/Detroit River. Probably about 8-9 a.m. tomorrow at Port Huron, weather permitting.Holubecois wrote:Heading for Montreal now, I think this might be the final journey for her. :(

Re: Algoma Montrealais
Loading in December isn't the same as loading in August. With the final push there's a possibility that it had to wait for its cargo. Also, if there's ice in the slip and alot of shifting is involved, the ice really slows the process down.Guest wrote:Montrealais is still moared at Thunder Bay. Re: Algoma Montrealais
Likely depends on where she will be scrapped. If it's in Port Colborne there's time to return from the St. Lawrence with ore for Dofasco then layup at IMS. If she's going overseas then layup in Montreal after unloading the grain makes sense.

What's her plan for the rest of the season? When anchored in Thunder Bay for a number of days now.

Re: Algoma Montrealais
How many times has a fleet on the Great Lakes ever announced in their online newsletter that they were retiring a ship, period?
Things in this industry are very fluid. So while I'm not suggesting that it's likely that she'll get another reprieve, folks were wrong once before.

Then a few weeks later, the impossible happened.
So you never know what could happen next spring. Hopefully they end up having such a need for her that they get her 5 year done and she ends up steaming at least one more season. A lot can change in a few months.

Well, looks like another laker that is now on the fast track to be scrapped. Beautiful boat. Will miss her.

I've been tracking a lot of boats on Lake Superior today and all of them are going South of what would be their normal route.Ray wrote:AIS show them about midway between Isle Royale and the Kewanaw penensula on a course of 044. The usual routing for this season has been to discharge cement in Duluth and then load grain in Thunder Bay and head down the seaway from there. Assuming they are headed for Thunder Bay, it will be a few days before they get to the Soo. However their current location seems odd if they are going to Thunder Bay, unless there is a weather related reason to go all the way around Isle Royale.

Re: Algoma Montrealais
She hasn't made it to Thunder Bay yet to load grain. It will depend a lot if there's a backup at the elevator(s) she loads at. It will probably be sometime Tues. at the earliest before you see it down your way.Brian Ferguson wrote:Anyone know when she's due through Port Huron or Detroit (or is she past?).
