Number of Lakers

Re: Number of Lakers
The actual question that was asked was how many US and Canadian Lakers sailed. Nothing mentioned of Bulk carriers, tankers, cement boats etc. Simply looking for how many ships in total sailed this season.

The popular definition of a bulk carrier, per the internet, is a cargo vessel that carries a variety of cargos in bulk quantities. Although cement carriers carry cement in bulk quantities, that is the only thing they carry.cpfan wrote:Why are cement carriers and tankers not included?mccollochd wrote:I keep a spreadsheet of Lakes vessels. I show 94 (51 Canadian, 43 American) bulk cargo carriers on the Lakes . this includes the ATB like Lakes Contender, Pathfinder, but does not include cement carriers or tankers or passenger vessels. CSL St Laurent will be added to the list when she arrives in Montreal.

Tankers, on the other hand, only carry liquified cargos. Bulk carriers carry cargo ranging from stone to sand, to ash. These cargos have a variety of size and consistency, while the consistency of liquids can be easily changed.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on this topic. These are my own understandings of the differences between bulk carriers, cement carriers, and tankers.

Re: Number of Lakers
last i checked, i think there are 54 lakers left. then again, that could depend on what you consider a Laker or not (does this include ATBs? cement carriers? storage vessels?).
all vessels that were able to sail on short notice sailed this year. the 4 US flagged vessels and 1 canadian flagged vessel that didn't required 5-years to return to service.

Number of Lakers
Does anyone know how many Canadian and US Lakers sailed for the 2014 season and how many more could have if there was a demand?
