Re: CSL boats
Thanks Don for posting that picture and a very good and nice one at that as well. Like I mentioned to mhillm earlier, I could not at the time recall what year the Tad got painted red until I looked up my own photos and saw yours and now can confirm it was during the winter lay-up of 2010-11 that she was painted up in Toledo.

Anyone know when and why the colour change?
Here's a photo of the CSL Tadoussac with her brand new paint job on April 4, 2011.

Re: CSL boats
You may be right mhillm as far as 2012 being the year that she was repainted red in Toledo. That does sound about right and I would have to look up the past lay-up lists on boatnerd to see just when she was in Toledo and what year it would have been in as far as her getting the red paint job? As far as why she went from red to gray "Please read my earlier post and comments." I believe it was mainly due to the fact that the run she was on as far as her carrying cement clinker from Picton to Essexville had ended for CSL and for a time, the Stephen B. Roman was used on that run also. However, this did not last for long either. So again, I believe it had something to do with CSL no longer using the Tad to haul cement from Picton to Essexville with clinker as to why she went to red.

Re: CSL boats
Remember also that CSL Tadoussac was originally gray when she was rebuilt at PWDD in 2001. Although this was mainly due to her new career hauling cement clinker from Picton, Ontario and then delivering it to Essexville, Michigan and the Essroc Cement Dock in Essexville. This trade however, ended several years ago and since the CSL Tadoussac was repainted in a red hull color just a few years ago while drydocked in Toledo. Both the Birchglen and the Spruceglen received new red hulls from black a few years ago as did the Cedarglen as well. Sorry if you had already known this just making a point is all. I must say though IMO that having many of the CSL ships go from black to red "is a blessing in my opinion as a few of them look better in red than they did before in their early hull colors." Just my thoughts and opinions only here and that is it.

Re: CSL boats
All of their lake boats are now painted red. Years ago I believe the bulkers were painted red and the SU's black. They've all been red for quite some time now.BobG wrote:It seems as if CSL has always had some vessels with black hulls. Usually the ones carrying "dirtier" cargoes, I think.

NOt having watched that episode, I'll assume that the ship was Rt Hon Paul E Martin. This is a Panamax sized CSL International Trillium ship. Oh, and it's black.Judie wrote:While watching Mighty Ships, Happy Star, I saw the Rt Hon Paul Martin. She was painted black. When did CSL change colours?
