Any Boatnerds watching the MLB Playoffs

Well sadly the Cubs Cinderella type season came to a end last night loseing 8-3 to the Mets. They had one heck of a season going all the way to the National League Championship series. They have such a young team and this Cubs team went farther then maney expected. They just ran outta steam. They never had the lead during the Championship series and were constantly playing catch up and they just couldn't handle the Mets pitching. I have no doubt they will come back next season and make another run at it. The years of the Cubs being America's favorite losers are threw. The Cubs will be good for maney more years to come and in my opinion will win it all within the next 3-5yrs. Now I will cheer for the Blue Jays and hope they can move on for a Mets Blue Jays world series with Toronto winning the world series. Thats just my prediction.

I see this morning that the Cubs are in huge trouble sorry to say as the Mets won last night and now have taken a commanding 3-0 lead in the NLCS baseball playoffs. Although I have not watched any of the playoffs this year, I was rooting also for the Cubs and would like to see them get to the World Series. Also see on the AL side that the Bluejays are not doing too well either. Drats there goes my prediction of a Bluejays vs Cubs World Series this year!

Dan I hear and agree with what you are saying as well about the ticket prices for a family at these events. Also and don't forget the price for parking as well which is even more ridiculous and you should see what the Tigers charge just for Opening Day parking! Just crazy and insane and it is the only time of the year where they jack the prices up through the roof and any other time it is within reason. The only thing that MLB cares about is dollars and money and "Not" about you or your family and friends. A perfect example of that is in August 2007 my brother and I and his friends all went down on a Friday night to watch the Tigers vs Yankees. At the time, weather was horrible as it poured down rain with severe storms rolling through Detroit, Toledo and other surrounding areas. We all sat in the Tiger Club upstairs as a friend gave us the tickets and he came along also. Point is, we all sat in the TC with a rain delay and the TVs were going and showing the weather and maps. Everyone was sure and certain the game would be cancelled and made up at a later date right? Wrong are you all! We left the park and were about .25 on I-75 when on the radio it was announced and said "Looks like we're gonna have a game yet!" Yeah sure at 11 P.M. that night give or take and it went to extra innings and did not get over until 2-3 a.m. the next morning. They should have cancelled the dang thing and had a DH later but, MLB never wants to have DH games like they used to do. It was a shame as it was the Rocket pitching for the Yankees. I lost interest in MLB after that and even before when they struck in the 1990s and then cancelled the WS I think around 1994? To me Bud Selig was a horrible guy to run MLB IMO and I think he ruined a lot of baseball for folks. Just my thoughts and opinions only here on this. Anyone agree?

Just been watching the Toronto Blue Jays in the fourth of the series against the Kansas City Royal and to say they suck is an understatement.

Did anyone happen to see or hear what the prices of tickets for the NLCS and home games for the Cubs at Wrigley Field were going as lately? You won't believe it but, I see the other day that a ticket for the NLCS at Wrigley was going for $1,000 and double the price of what it cost for the ALCS and to think we are not even at the WS yet! With those prices, I can't imagine what it would cost then to go and see the WS and for a family of four besides? I don't see how anyone can afford to go to the baseball playoffs or any type of sporting event with those prices. Guess they must think money grows on tress LOL!

Denny, I totally agree with your statement"Guess they must think money grows on trees" $1, 000 for one ticket is beyond outrageous. Yes I am a die hard Cubs fan and love Wrigley Field and wish I could see a playoff game in person but no thank you for prices like that. I'll spend $20 and order pizza and bread sticks and enjoy watching the game at home with my wife and daughter and watch the game on television. I have never understood why any sport's teams jack up the prices for tickets when it comes to any type of playoff or championship game. They would still sell out there venues even if the prices were how they are during the regular season. In my opinion there should be a cap as to how high these places can charge for tickets and in my opinion that cap should be $100. Even that is still expensive but a lot cheaper then $1, 000. That's just my opinion.

My son had to call me Saturday evening after Michigan lost to rub it in. Like I said in my last post, I could never get either one of my children to follow my Michigan teams. Should be a real family rivalry next Sunday when the Vikings play the Lions. Son will be over for lunch, so I'm hoping the Lions can do it again. If they lose I'll never hear the end of it!!

Well said Dan and I agree with every word and every line that you put in your post. Also, let's give the NFL a round of applause as well and "I can't hear any of you boatnerds clapping on this one!" Look at some of the games in the NFL and how they came down to the wire and how close the "undefeated teams came to losing their games?" The Pack barely held off the surging Chargers in the end and the Broncos had to go to OT in order to beat the Browns and the Panthers squeezed out a close one over the Seahawks and the Pats won a close one score wise over the Colts. I can guarantee you folks that by Week 17 there may be only one undefeated team left in the NFL possibly two. The Pats I can see going 16-0 again in the regular season like what they once did and then running the table in the playoffs to get back to the SB. The Bengals I can't say much as I have not seen them on TV. Broncos are struggling and they definitely will not run the table nor will the Carolina Panthers as well. The Pack will be interesting to see if they can keep it going for awhile as well. Get ready folks the 2nd half of the NFL should be good and fun along with College Football. This is why I say that Football in October-January is at its best. Football in September is pure sissy high school football as far as the NFL and College is concerned IMO. Just my thoughts only here. Anyone agree here?

I would also like to apologize to St Crapo for going off-subject here as far as the baseball playoffs and talking about other sports stuff when I guess we should have started a new post about other sports related teams and different things. Also since we are talking about the Lions, yes I do give them lots of credit as they earned their first win yesterday and deserved it. Now hopefully they can keep it going and have some confidence going forward and also try to build upon something as well to keep on winning. As for the big and huge game on Saturday between UM vs MSU, I say sorry to disappoint some but MSU got lucky at the very end as UM just about had their number but they let it slip away on them and it cost them at the very end. Instead of disagreeing here as far as who the winners and losers were, can't we just agree that it was one heck of a game and finish and perhaps one of the best games and finishes in all of College Football History? Okay so MSU won this time and beat UM again and keeps the Paul Bunyan trophy. Getting down and praising MSU for the win and keeping the trophy for this year. However, MSU still has a tough road yet ahead.

No need for any apologys Denny, I am totally fine with what has happened with this thread. I do agree the Lions fought hard and did deserve to win and I to hope that this is what they needed and they will now start winning maney more games and possibly make a playoff run. I know my last statement may sound like a pipe dream considering the way the Lions have played this season but as one of the announcers stated during the telecast the Lions arnt a bad team. They have been in every game they have played this season except for the blowout vs Arizona. If they get going I could see them getting in as a wildcard team.
The U of M vs Michigan State game was a great game to watch and one of the best college football games I've ever watched. My wife and I and our daughter's jaws all dropped with that last play and all 3 of us all said "I can't believe that just happened and Michigan lost" It was a well played hard fought game and I congratulate the Spartans on there win and I beleave my uncle would have said the same if he was still with us. Now us die hard Michigan fans can only hope that they beat that team from Ohio at the end of the season.
On the Baseball side of things the Cubs are down 2-0 in the NLCS with games 3, 4, and if necessary game 5 being played at Wrigley field starting on Tuesday. The Cubs bats have went cold but I beleave with the series shifting back to Wrigley there bats will heat up again and they will win the next 3 games at home. I can see this series going 7 games with hopefully the Cubs moveing on to the World Series. I hope everyone had a great weekend and all is well with everyone.

No apologies needed sir. I too am a avid Michigan fan and will also be watching this game Saturday and look forward to watching the Wolverines crush Sparty. As I said when I started this thread I grew up along the banks of the Saginaw River in Michigan and even though I am now married with a daughter and liveing in the Indianapolis Indiana area I'm still a fan of Michigan sport's teams besides being a Chicago Cubs fan also. My late Uncle was one of the Biggest university of Michigan fans you could ever meet. I spent maney Saturday afternoons at his house watching Michigan football and in his memory i continue to watch every Michigan football games on Saturdays. I expect this will be a high scoring game with Michigan winning 49-46.
After the Michigan game I'll watch the Cubs game verse eaither the Mets or Dodgers.

I am also hoping the Cubs keep on winning. I have been a Tigers fan since the late 50s or very early 60s. This year was a huge disappointment. I also thought Brad Ausmus was a bad hire, but I guess Al Avila saw something in him to want to keep him another year. Probably what is was he didn't want to buy him out, plus pay another manager. Even after living in Duluth for 36 years I am a Michigan sports fan. It's tough when your son, daughter, and son-in-law are all diehard Minnesota sports fan. I see their MN teams improve and the Detroit teams go downhill. I'm not even going to get started on the Lions.

Well I just seen that Toronto has now advanced to the ALCS in the baseball playoffs. As much as I don't want to see Toronto get to the WS this year and win it, how would a Toronto vs Chicago series as far as the World Series in Baseball sound to you? I think that it would be neat and think about it! You would have two teams from the Great Lakes Chicago from Lake Michigan vs Toronto which of course is near Lake Ontario and you can call it the Great Lakes Series for Baseball! Then you can also have Canada vs the USA for the World Series and the Baseball Title as well this year. To me this would make for a neat and much talked about WS and the heck with who the news media and TV and viewers want in the thing. Comments anyone?

Okay so I have only watched one game so far and that was their loss out in Utah but, I am saving my game watching for this Saturday and again in late November when the play Ohio State. Those are the two main TV games I want to watch UM play in. Go Blue!
