My Mom worked as a RN there after the war (46-51). Met my dad there who came off the boats to have surgery. They married in '50. She told me many military men came back from the war in addition to where the merchant mariner's went for care.

Does anyone know when the old Marine Hospital (Alter Rd/Riverside Dr) in Detroit was demolished?

Are you sure of the location? I find many references to a Marine Hospital located at Mt Elliot and Jefferson, but none (so far) at Alter and Riverside.

Alter Road & Riverside Drive are the correct streets. I believe Mariners Park is the site of the old Public Service Hospital. In 1979 I had a Gold Crown #31 molar installed -- happy to say the crown is still in place and holding up well.
