Instead of “American Republic” how about “Great Republic”? The name would continue to be full of American Patriotism but it would add an interesting Great Lakes Fleet flavor that has been unique to American Steamship all these years.

How about "Security Call" or "Radio Check"? That'd make for some interesting conversations on the radio.

I would like them to rename it Steve.

Just because it would be funny.

If it was my boat, I'd rename it Charles M. Beeghly, just to confuse the heck out of everyone!

If you recall in 1996 she carried the olympic torch for the olympics,
How about "Great Lakes Flame"?

I don't know what sailors on the Lakes think of it, but if we're thinking of past USS and Bradley ships to honor, I think it would be neat to see both Carl D. Bradley's honored with a 3rd ship carrying that name.

It's not at all unusual for Naval ships to honor a ship that has been lost, so I'm not sure if it's considered unlucky by superstitious sailors in the merchant marine. If it isn't viewed negatively by many of their employees, I think it would be nice to see it revived.

Either way, I hope they do what CSL does and honor a past member of their fleet, no matter which one it is.
