Not 68 feet wide but, 78 feet wide according to all the data that I have seen from various websites and sources on her. However, you are correct thought at least as far as the length of the Manitoulin is concerned.

I'm coming up with 662' 8.74", but I've seen everything from 443' to 700'.
I consider "Know Your Ships" to be a legit source. Page 58 of the 2016 KYS says
662' 09" by 77' 09" by 44' 11".

Well I was finally able to look it up on my records as far as the Manitoulin length and this is what I came up with and found. Whenever she appears on the Seaway website, they have her length listed at 202.50 meters. So, what I do is I take the 202.50 and then I times that by 3.28 to get the conversion to feet which equals out to 664.2 feet. Not sure how accurate that is but, I would say it is fairly close as the KYS book has it at around 663 feet. From that information in the KYS book, it looks and appears to be around 663 to 664 feet in length and that I think is about the same length as what the James Norris was when she was sailing at one time. Of course the James Norris was never considered a "river-class ship but, the dimensions seem close and similar."

In response to Phil's link to Transport Canada. Please remember that the Transport Canada website quotes lengths between perpendiculars and not overall length.

I go with what I have seen on the St. Lawrence Seaway's website whenever she has appeared there. They seem to have her length listed at around 664 feet however, sorry to say I don't know what that is in meters without looking it up? I would say then she is around 663 to 664 feet in length somewhere in the neighborhood. She is also the "largest and longest river-class freighter I believe to be constructed for service on the Great Lakes/St. Lawrence Seaway if I am correct?" Hope that this has helped. Also, to convert their length from meters to feet I have always learned and gone with "the meters either length or width and times that by 3.28 and that seems to usually work for me." Again, I hope that all this scuttlebutt as helped out here.

[quote="Wawatam"]MarineTraffic.com lists her as 220 meters which is just shy of 663 feet.

CORRECTION - Looks like I converted it right but transposed the 2's - It's listed as 202 meters which is still just shy of 663 feet.

Anyone have a legit source for the length of the Manitoulin? The AIS sites have different figures, probably because some list her tanker length when she was still the Laylandia Swan.

I'm coming up with 662' 8.74", but I've seen everything from 443' to 700'.
