The Jackson's steam turbine set was rated at 6,600 maximum shaft horsepower before conversion.

As of 17:00, Jackson has left Silver Bay and is behind Isle Royale, with a destination of Cleveland. Sure hope they're here in daylight hours.

And the Marquette newspaper Saturday was reporting the Jackson was due to load there Sunday evening. The Jackson's ais currently shows a Marquette destination.

It barely got into the lake before turning around to come back to port. Hardly any time to build up speed..it is back on the lake Saturday morning and ais currently shows a speed of 11 knots.

Is the low speed a result of a break-in period for the engine?

A little new information here: http://www.duluthnewstribune.com/news/4 ... g-superior

The reference to 27th Avenue East means the ship traveled a little over two miles from the canal entrance.

I see the Jackson was only gone about an hour this morning on sea trials before returning to Duluth. She is currently docked at the Port Terminal.

OK boatnerds, we HOPE to move from Fraser to the Calumet fuel dock today and go out on sea trials tomorrow. The plan is to leave the Port Terminal around 05:30 local time Thursday and go out through the Duluth entry. Be there with cameras at the ready.

The steering pole was turned from inboard to its sailing outboard position this morning ( 9-20) and it was conducting lifeboat drills for the Coast Guard inspection so I would think in the next couple days he may be moving out for sea trials. they had the prop running today again also.

On Tuesday this week they had her prop spinning while she was tied off. But only that one day

I was going to ask that very same question Guest and glad to see that I am not the only one out there wondering the same thing as well on her. Thought surely that last month a few boatnerds and especially ones from the Twin Ports area thought that she would be going out by mid-September give or take. Well we are now at the half way point of September and nothing yet from the HCJ and as far as I know, no official word or announcements yet from ISC on their website as well. Maybe with most all of the ISC ships running and the demand for cargoes other than grain or wheat of course being down right now (I hope I am right here), maybe there is no immediate rush yet to get the Jackson out right now if I am making any sense here without issues? I am not sure what the demand is right now for iron ore and Yes I see the ships are busy hauling ore loads but, it can't be too high as ASC still has the St. Clair and the IH still laid-up along with the American Courage as well all three of which sailed in 2015 and have not sailed so far in 2016 and were also not expected to do so. The Munson I know is still in Sturgeon Bay and getting her re-powering done like the Jackson although, the JGM was not due to sail anyway in 2016. For some reason USS/GLF does not seem to be IMO in any rush to finish the job of re-powering the Munson yet. Sorry to go off subject here just me trying to make a point in a good clean way. Anyone hear anything on when the Jackson might be coming out and sailing this season?

Does anyone have any information on when the Herbert C. Jackson will be done with her power plant conversion? Last I heard it was a 6 month process and it was started last December.
