Cleveland Activity 2011 3rd qtr
Re: Cleveland Activity 2011 3rd qtr
Hi Les & Paul,
Yes, it is a beauty of a building isn't it. I explored all around it. No activity that I can see. I will inquire to the 'Landmarks folks.
I won 2 tickets for a late July Tribe Game in a box behind the plate today. Woo Hoo!
The Goodyear Blimp was over the River as the Iowa sailed up. The Iowa brought the Manitowoc down. I can still see her now Hope to see you soon Les.
Cheers

Hi, Paul
That building is the old B & O Railroad station.
I believe it is in the process of being restored.
Beecher can probably give you more info.

Beecher, thanks for the continuing reports and especially the photos! I really like seeing the waterfront along with the boats. BTW, what's that gorgeous brick building with the arched window bays?
Cheers Paul

Dredging has been non-stop.
There is a saltie in port. There is also lots of construction vehicles in and out of the P/A docks running in what I observe to be unchecked. I wonder how they are getting around the TWIC card stuff.
The GTIII
I saw a boat yesterday afternnonn approaching Cleveland Harbor. I am guessing it was Algosar.
The Buffalo is here. I first spotted her under the Lorain-Carnegie Bridge. Red sky at night..

Kasteelborg left at 1600 and Calumet entered for the salt dock shortly thereafter. American Integrity was at anchor out on the lake this afternoon.
Re: Cleveland Activity 2011 3rd qtr
I spoted a footer out on the lake after lunch. It was about 10 miles out and just sittin' idle. We had a Saltie leave mid afternoon. There was a lower lakes boat approaching from the east at the same time. Guessing Michipicoten or Calumet at 7 miles.

Great photos, Beecher.
I'll look forward to more, now that I am back on line.
Especially good shot of the Willy G.
We should be back down once we get settled in, hopefully for July 4.

I went for a walk down at North Coast Harbor today. They are setting up for a boating and fishing fest.

Hi guest.
The Dorothy Ann photo is not collision bend. It is the bend just before it and is part of the same Scranton Rd Peninsula as collision bend.
The Gilbert casino plans are another story. Our cash strapped governor is rethinking (changing the rules in the middle of the game) the tax for the casinos. Gilbert suspended all the construction plans. The river changes were tossed out the last time I heard. Don't rule it out in the future though. The USACE are the ones that keep floating the idea out there.
This is an old photo of the Cuyahoga sailing under the Carter Rd Lift Bridge. This is a photo at dusk of the five mile water intake crib. Looks like it is floating on air when you see it in person.

Hello Beecher. I, and we, always look forward to your posts. My 1st visit to Cleveland was for a draft physiical in the late 1960's. Every other visit to Cleveland have been for the Browns. Indians, OSU, and the Caviliers. I love your Cleveland for great visits and memories. Cleveland is a great town. My question for you is for the Dorothy Ann / Pathfinder sailing upriver in this post. Was your photo taken of the famous/infamous Collision Bend? Any more news for casino plans to shorten this passage?

A few boats around and no rain!
Dorothy Ann / Pathfinder sailed up the river. I saw these guys floating some docks down the river. I wondered if these are for the canoe and kayak rentals? This boat has been on the side of the River since the Sam Laud fitted out at the beggining of the season. I am curious to the story behind it. AN of course the Sam Laud backed down the river a little while ago.

Thanks MN,
It sure beats the phone pics, huh?
How about this contrast from an earlier photo: This photo shows one ore pile on Whiskey Island in the upper left. There is a laker (Sam?) with it's boom away while it loads next to it. The old channel is shown with the lift bridge over it. The Main Avenue bridge and "Christie's Gentlemans Club" is the washed & colored building in the center. The Star Of Nautica is moored in the river. The Flats West bank has a festival goin' on. I have lots of ammo. We will be launching sky lanterns over all of it this summer and display that too.
Cheers, b.

Beecher, great pics!
That is really some close quarters maneuvering for the Calumet!

The holiday weekend passed with visits from Rebecca Lynn/A137, Manistee, and The Sam Laud. I also wrenched on the camera. It is in service now. You are all in trouble.
The Calumet sailed up the river this morning. She navigated the bridge Then had to stop before running into the bulkhead. She came close as you can see but did not touch. I saw some extra folks come out on deck during that period. Oh, the excitement! Cheers,
