We hauled a lot of salt when I sailed on the McKeesons in the mid 70’s. We always rinsed down after every load.

Just to add to these comments; if successive salt loads were to be handled it might be better not to rinse the holds between loads. Once salt is dissolved, the liquid brine can access more nooks and crannies and make corrosion over time a greater possibility. Just my thoughts....

The self-unloading boom and the belt on the boom are usually hosed off between loads also.

Usually just hose the holds down with the high pressure hoses. The water would then run through the gates at the bottom of the holds.

Do the shipping companies clean the holds after a load of salt is delivered? If so, how? I'm assuming that they do in order to reduce any long term corrosive effects, but I could be wrong.

Interlake hauled some salt in the 80's as well too. There have been some photos posted on social media of the Herbert Jackson delivering salt to the twin ports area
