Hugh3 - the Happy River is unloading windmill parts in Erie.

Capt. Keith has not been to Erie this season. No tug and barge has been in Erie to pick up a crane.

Also, I'm sure Malcolm would have put photos on their Facebook page if they were involved in a move like that.

From what I have been able to piece together, it was either taken by the tug Capt Keith, or by another form of transportation (truck). I tried to see if there was anyone available viewing the Marine City camera that happened to see the Capt Keith heading northbound around that time, but no one available had seen it. However someone did tell me that a family member worked for the company that owns Capt Keith and he thought he remembered that this tug did in fact bring the crane up by barge, however wasn’t 100 percent sure.

Myself, along with others did see the Capt Keith heading southbound on the cam around the time/after the crane was supposedly supposed to arrive, and the barge she was pushing was empty, but it did seem a little small to be carrying such a large crane. Then again, who am i to assume the actual size/capacity of the barge from a camera view?

At this point, I guess all we can do is assume. I think Capt Keith makes the most sense, but there is no sure way to know, unless someone has inside info from Malcolm Marine or the Power Plant.

When, and on what tug and barge? AIS records show no tug and barge in there recently except Meredith Ashton, which took a newbuild barge to Buffalo.

Others probably know about more about this than I but the area between the two plants and where the staging is taking place is called Blue Water Power. The cab was removed from the barge by cranes. It was transported without the crawlers. In order to cross M29 the roadway will have to be built up to support the total crane’s weight.

You can believe that the cab or car body, which weighs 170,000 pounds came by tug and barge. It was off loaded at the St. Clair plant dock and came over to the new area between St. Clair and Belle River plants by a load star truck/trailer built for heavy loads. Iron workers were not involved in the off loading at the dock and so I’m not sure of the tug/barge but it was on the weekend of June 22-23. It came to us and we took it from there. Now, get your AIS ready because the next phase and loads coming by tug and barge are coming to the St. Clair powerplant dock on July 15, 16, or 17 and these turbines are the reason for the Manitowoc being there. The turbines are massive. The St. Clair power plant dock is north of Recor Road.

Isn't the crane sitting west of M-29 at the Belle River site?
How are they going to use it on the river front dock? I can't imagine that they could get back across M-29 once the crane is assembled.

Did it drive on and off whatever barge it came on? That must have been pretty crazy to see.

How do we know that it was ever transported by barge/water? There appears to be no proof that this actually happened. Unless the tug that brought it did not have AIS (unlikely), somebody would have seen this happen, either in person, on a webcam, or on an AIS site.

Another possibility is that it was transported by barge to a location other than the power plant, and transported by land the rest of the way.

How did it look on the barge? How did they get it off? How did they get it here without anyone snapping a picture? What tug and barge brought it?

The Manitowoc 650 crane is assembled and just about ready to go. Detroit ironworkers completed the assembly well ahead of schedule. It’s complete except for the aerial navigation lights and so the boom is down until Monday.

I think I can see it behind the hills there on the west side of the road.
I can't believe that no boatnerds got pictures of it anywhere on route.
It went past the Marine City webcam. I replayed the camera every morning to see if I could find it.
