The Trent-Severn is a very beautiful waterway and lots of fun to boat through. For this purpose however it may not be practical due to the 6ft limiting depth.Cleveland Guest wrote:There is also the Trent–Severn Waterway which connects the Georgian Bay to Lake Ontario, you would bypass Lake Erie and the Welland, but the mast would have to be unstepped.

Re: sailboat delivery
Wherever the destination on Lake Ontario, it would take a several days longer to transit the Trent-Severn Canal and a day or two longer on the Erie (formerly NYS Barge) Canal - not to mention the time and cost of unstepping the mast - than to go down the Welland Canal. Once at Port Weller, all destinations are within a day's sale, and the furthest, Kingston, is less than 180 miles.

and a really really long way around. oswego is totally at the other end of the lake.Guest wrote:Now that’s a well thought out answer!Guest wrote:It depends on the route between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. If you go through the Welland Canal, then the mast can stay up, as that's the route the ships take. But many pleasure boaters choose to bypass the Welland by taking the New York State Barge Canal, then entering Lake Ontario at Oswego. The Barge Canal requires unstepping the mast.

At 64' you should have no problems. All bridges are at least 100' off the water. And most river marinas have drawbridges.

sailboat delivery
Hi! I need to get a sailboat delivered from Milwaukee to Lake Ontario. It's a 44' sloop with approx 64' mast height. I need to confirm that the trip can be made without having to de-rig (unstep the mast). Thanks in advance for any info!
