I thought I read somewhere back in the 1990s that ore shipments out of Marquette were expected to end somewhere in the 2020s due to the mines running out of ore. Maybe this old man is thinking of something else.JFB wrote:Of course Escanaba's gain could be Marquette's loss.

Of course Escanaba's gain could be Marquette's loss.
Re: Escanaba Ore Dock
That would be great if it happens. I have fond memories of loading in Esky and enjoyed more than a few beers at Stropich's and the Corner Bar and occasionally a big steak dinner at the House of Ludington

Re: Escanaba Ore Dock
Before the pandemic and steel slowdown, there still was local talk (rumors) of reopening Escanaba ore dock when Cliffs made a decision on the Empire mine.
Heard 2-3 years of overburden had to be removed at the mine, and rail repairs or buyout from CN. Would also include track trough Wisconsin, to tranport ore from Minnesota to Esky during the winter, for year round boat transportation to Indiana & Toledo. Icebreaking supported by USCG, Basic Marine & Selvick.
Hope it happensas we miss the Lakers in Escanaba!

Escanaba Ore Dock
Has CN removed the shiploader from the Escanaba dock? I know when the dock was closed I'd read that everything would be removed in Escanaba. Thanks for any information.
