There is a great story and write up about them in an earlier version of the KYS book the 2021? I think it has to do maybe with Vikings? Surely someone will have more on this than I do. Sorry I couldn’t help any more and hope that my information has helped some.

That's what they are. It was covered in a story in the 2021 Know Your Ships.

Does anyone know what the several round colorful symbols displayed on both sides of the tug Presque Isle are for? I don't see them on any other ships in the GLF fleet and they appear to be patterned after medieval shield patterns.
