The Presque Isle was downbound off of Whitefish Point overnight into the early morning hours of Monday, January 16, 2023 and also they were ahead of the tug Defiance and barge Ashtabula. Unless something pops up that I am missing and not seeing here, for now anyway it appears and looks as though the tug Defiance and barge Ashtabula may possibly close out the Soo as the last commercial vessel transit of the season and downbound there then on Monday, January 16, 2023? Again I say folks, enjoy these last few boats at the Soo while you can as it will be a while and several weeks and also a couple of months before we see many of our favorites back out and in action again this year. For the crews of all these vessels, Enjoy your time off as you all have earned it and cheers to you all for a great and safe season and year in 2022! We'll see you all again then come Spring 2023 and Fit Out.

Last Boats at the Soo

As of 10:30 p.m. on January 15, 2023 the Presque Isle and the tug Defiance with their barge ASHTABULA respectively are both downbound on Lake Superior right now at or near the Munising area of Lake Superior. Depending on weather conditions, they should both arrive at the Soo then sometime on January 16 as the last and final downbound transits for the season. Enjoy these two while you can boatnerds as once they lock through, then we have to wait just over two months until they start up again. Gonna hate to see it end until they reopen it in March. Already looking forward to the new season in the Spring then!
