EDIT: I always enjoy reading about the circumstances behind how photos are made and in that spirit I thought I would share some information about my photo.

This was taken in either September or October 1984. I'm sure about the year but not the month. The photo is from a scanned Kodachrome 25 slide. The camera was a Nikon F2 with a 500mm Reflex Nikkor lens.

My vantage point was the beach in front of The Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum. It was a chilly, windy day when I shot the Frontenac passing by. As you can see the water was quite rough. This was my first (and only) time at Whitefish Point so maybe these water conditions are normal. I shot about 15 to 20 frames of the Frontenac but this frame had the best view of the waves and the closest view of the ship.

The view you are looking at is full frame. I haven't cropped anything off the image except the extreme outer edges. I had to do that because of the rough edges around the cardboard slide mount. You are essentially seeing what I saw through the viewfinder. Remarkably, the entire vessel is visible from the stern to the tip of the steering pole at the bow. I was hand-holding the camera and composition becomes challenging when using such a powerful telephoto lens without a tripod to steady the camera.

To the best of my knowledge I have never shown this photo to anyone until I posted it here.
