Re: H Lee White overloaded
They did offload cargo into the Boland as someone had earlier suggested.

Re: H Lee White overloaded
There's another thing that could have been responsible. The water shallows up at the inner end of the dock because of silt from the Dead River.
Sometimes vessels coming in with limestone for the hopper have difficulty reaching there unloading spot.

Couldn’t have been as severe as it looked as she has left for Toledo and is down by port Huron today.

Re: H Lee White overloaded
The White has been loading at LS&I regularly this season so I'm sure they have a proper loading plan in place and it wasn't overloaded. The water depth at the dock is at least 30' and from the photos the Whites draft marks don't indicate they were loaded that deep.
My best guess is they had a problem pumping out ballast water on the starboard side and had to delay loading till it was resolved

Yeah except I was told she was on the bottom by the dock. Not to mention years of experience loading boats tells me if she was not on the bottom she could have been righted by now. you do know that the reason people come to this forum is for insight from people with decades of experience on boats, right? BTW she's still in Marquette.

Re: H Lee White overloaded
There's no evidence she is resting on the bottom. The only thing we know is that she has a list. Till concrete evidence comes with the reason, guesses are just guesses and a waste of time here.

I was out there a couple of hours ago, and she's still there and listing pretty far over to the dock.
Re: H Lee White overloaded
I see the Boland is situated on the otherside of the loading dock from the White. I wonder if the White's cargo is being transferred to the Boland somehow? Anyone know what's going on with the White?

Re: H Lee White overloaded
THIS is why they have load lights on the decks of the boats. I also heard that perhaps the unloading boom had not been positioned correctly. Time will tell.

Seems that the white overloaded and is on the bottom at Marquette with a nasty list on her starboard toward the dock
