I oftened wondered why the Sherwin stayed in Superior for so long, when Interlake owns the Detour dock?

The work already done was completed before the economy took a dive. She was in the midst of repowering and conversion and when business declined, the yard just closed everything up and she was placed back storage. Personally I don't think you will ever see here used again as a powered freighter, but a barge similar to Pathfinder is always a possibility.

I'm pretty sure Interlake plans to make use of her (as a diesel-powered ship). They have already removed the turbines, reduction gear, and boilers. I doubt they would do this, and then spend the work and money to put her in lay-up at Detour, if they didn't plan on using her once the economy strengthens enough to require extra capacity.

the john sherwin is in longterm lay up status. She could be brought
back into service as a self unloader vessel.
