The Edgar Speer has been moved into the Large Graving Dock - happened during the day yesterday (03/24/26).

As of 12:30 pm ET on March 23, the James R. Barker has departed from their Winter Lay Up at the Face Dock. They are on their way out of Sturgeon Bay being assisted by the USCG Mackinaw & tug Donald J. Sarter. The Barker is leaving Sturgeon Bay and heading out through Green Bay. Hope all this helps. With the Barker’s departure, this now leaves the Manitoulin along with the Edgar B. Speer among the larger vessels still remaining then at Sturgeon Bay so far. Yes I am aware that there are indeed other vessels at Sturgeon Bay this Winter besides the Barker, Manitoulin and the Speer. I’m sorry as I don’t recall some of the others?

She was moved out of the graving dock today (03/19) and is at Berth 10.

Their new build boat is still there and looks like it needs to dock also. Not sure if the Speer will go into the graving dock first, or if the new build will go into the floating dock once it is activated.

As of today March 19, the Manitoulin is no longer in the Large Graving Dock at Sturgeon Bay and now is shown on the AIS Map as being at a different berth and location. Any Sturgeon Bay boatnerds seen, know or hear when the Manitoulin was removed from the Graving Dock and what berth and where are they at now? Thanks for any info and updates. Also, the James R. Barker has had their AIS turned on now for the past few days as they prepare to depart soon to begin the 2026 season. Lastly, the Speer I think for now still remains at Berth 15 alongside the Graving Dock waiting for the Manitoulin to get their 5 Year Drydocking completed. Once they are done, at some point the Speer will be moved and shifted over into the Graving Dock where work will begin on the installation of her new engines. Word has it that the work on the Speer will not be completed until sometime this Summer and then the Speer should return to service then. That’s all that I have at this time as far as any updates from Sturgeon Bay.

From photos posted on the Port Reports for February 15, the Manitoulin was moved from Berth 10 into the Large Graving Dock on February 13. At this time, I do not know when the James R. Barker was taken out of the Large Graving Dock and where she was moved to afterward? I assume she may have gone to the Face Dock at Sturgeon Bay however, I don’t have any confirmation at this time. Anyone from Sturgeon Bay have any updates or new and information that they can add to this? Thanks in advance for any new, updates and information you may have then.

Thanks Guest 38 for the news, updates & information on the USCGC Sequoia as I’ve been wondering why she’s been at Sturgeon Bay since June of 2025. You helped answer my question on her then. They say you learn something new everyday so, I guess you might say that now I learned and find out why the Sequoia has been at Sturgeon Bay since June 2025. Thanks Again.

USCGC SEQUOIA is also still at Sturgeon Bay, towed there in June for an unplanned reduction gear overhaul.

Following on from Denny...the Edgar Speer is on berth 15, the Manitoulin on berth 10 I think.

That might be the entire Winter Fleet at Bay Ship...3 boats, and the new construction windfarm vessel is there also.

Today, January 18 saw two arrivals at Sturgeon Bay for lay up. The Speer and the Manitoulin both arrived with the Speer it would appear laying up alongside of the large graving dock awaiting the James R. Barker who is still in the large graving dock getting their 5-year drydocking done. The Manitoulin, sorry to say I am not as familiar with the lay up berths and locations at Sturgeon Bay as the local contributors and the reporters are here on boatnerd. I do hope though that thus information I provided helps out here. Thank You.
