Shipkeeper Tales

Unread post by Algosteel II »

With the revamp of the board, I decided it was time to establish a new screen name, and to properly log in and out when making a post. I previously have posted as 'Guest 999' and 'Guest 1001100x02', and often times didn't log in to the system.

Ten years ago I enjoyed a last minute opportunity on the Algosteel (2) as a shipkeeper from late February to mid April, 2016. I could have stayed longer, but a shoreside job millwrighting was too good to turn down.

Ten years on and long since retired, I sent a general inquiry to the same shipping company, letting them know I was once again available if there was a need for shipkeepers. When mid December rolled around, a staff member called and asked if I was interested still. I indicated so, but details at that point regarding layup ports and ships were unclear. Regrettably, when I was contacted in January, I had too many medical appointments with specialists scheduled, and felt I couldn't give Algoma Central Corporation a decent turn as a primary shipkeeper. I worked a lot of maintenance and construction maintenance jobs over many years, but for a boatnerd like myself, I don't think I enjoyed any quite as much as shipkeeping.

As for recent years, do any readers have any stories as watchmen?
