Well, good to hear from guest that it’s in the Manitowoc Herald. Being at some distance and trying to pinpoint departure for the Pearl Harbor tow via this forum has been sketchy. I followed and posted updates pretty much from start to finish on the November start and run round to Seattle.
Hope to be able to cover this one as well. That was a good post today. Time to bunk down; the excitement is coming.

Blue crane still here. Local paper says going out at 7 in the morning5/29/26. workers are putting a banner on it around the support support boxes for the boom. Do not know why but they have taken off the boom cable support frame work and its lock down frame work looks like it is now on the barge deck. Will see if it goes in the morning. Hope it gets tracked on its travel like the last one Thanks for doing that.

5/27/26 noon. Went by the crane and saw the boom is lowered down and locked in place . The upper cable structure is lowered down on the barge deck and people are locking it down. The heavy moving supplies are being loaded on trucks and leaving the dock area. Talk around town is that is leaving Manitowoc on Thursday but do not know that for sure. Keep watching the boat tracker .

Was scanning the Ocean Tower/BIG Blue section of the forum again.
Mr. Link, I checked out your forwarded link. Although different than my NBC26.com/cranep82; yours took me to the same video I referenced finding back on Monday. Nice to hear Fromm you.
Guest Tuesday…nice post again. Lots of details such as the part about “ big cranes being used to lift parts or BIG Blue aboard the barge!

Tuesday after noon. Went by the crane loading area and saw that the barge has been turned around and the last of the 8 tie down tubes is being installed. A person on a man lift was working near the cable end of the boom. 3 shipping containers with the boom tie down frame is in place . Thinking that once boom is lowered on to its lock down that the upper cable structure can start to be taken down and locked down. 2 big Manitowoc cranes are being used for moving the parts on the barge. I thought that the barge was shorter than the last one but there is plenty of length for the boom to nest on. Will try to keep tract of the goings on .

Correct link (hopefully): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcKXWdoa8GI

If by chance the link doesn't work, the video is currently on NBC 26's YouTube page, and does not appear to be on their website.

Just read Guest’s report on what he saw when he went by the Kone yard earlier this evening. That was a really good description. Between his description and photos from the November transit one can get a pretty good idea of what is going on. Thank you!
In my earlier post this afternoon about the video came across I’ve realized I left out in the web address I put forward.
It should be …nbc26.com/ crane p82.That should open a news video about what’s going on and departure for you.

Went by the crane works tonight and see that the crane is now on the barge. One of the 4 upper tie down rods are on 3 more to go plus the 4 lower tie down rods. The upper structure is still in place. The barge looks shorter than the last one the boom will hang out over the end of the barge. Will try to check on the load tomorrow.

Answered my own questions!!
Two days ago posted questions around the recent return of Ocean Tower to Manitowoc and a big crane tow.I asked others with access to the Kone Crane or harbor at Manitowoc on the forum and into this thread to send in whatever they might see going on in prep for this upcoming tow.
I found the answer this afternoon…
Get on your “googler” and search…NBC36.com/crane.

Further to my Ocean Tower post of May 23, asking anyone on this forum having further info on the tug’s trip to Manitowoc and an impending big crane tow; some research activity this afternoon resulted in a major find. A video is available.
I accessed the video on my “googler” via NBC 26.com/crane. It answered my major questions. Take a look. Open to discuss with others keen about this.

For the Guest who posted Saturday, May 23 afternoon….thanks so much!
Your post answered all the questions I was just getting set to post…..all about the preparations in Manitowoc to get this big job safely afloat for the run to Hawaii. I take you are in close enough proximity to keep an eye on the situation. I followed and sent updates here for all of the conditions they
encountered on the water journey to Seattle, Puget Sound. Am planning to do the same for this one.
A final request…If you get wind of or actually know the departure date; could you please post it here. I want to follow the trip by videos and photos, as well as the comments that get posted here.that I hope others having the same interest level will post.

Was just checking the Forums about Ocean Tower.
A Guest wrote in asking if this Ocean Tower visit in Manitowoc is about getting a crane to Hawaii.
First thanks for participating; writing in your Question…..
Indeed; I am sure that Dann Towing didn’t send her and cfrew up for a cruise. This IS all about a trans- Pacific crane tow if you can wrap your mind around that idea!

Ocean Tower is 3-5 hours above Manitowoc sailing at 7.5 knots.
Interested to see Guest comment re: seeing the battening down of the departing crane to its barge at the Kone Crane dock.
Is it possible that anyone reading this might have photos or video they could post here of the loading at Kone?
On departure day it would be great if anyone on here attending could post photos or video as well.

I will be watching for her in Manitowoc at the Kone crane dock. They have been doing work on the crane for braces to lock it down to the barge

It’s great to see other guest responses to my piece from this p.m. on Ocean Tower’s return to the Lakes.
The point from Guest that on her last voyage from Manitowoc to Seattle the AIS descriptor of destination always being New York is something I missed. Very cool of you to put that in front of us. I shall make a point of watching during the upcoming tow/adventure.if indeed that is her purpose for being back here.

I've been following since before the Panama canal and the AIS had New York since they stopped in New Jersey and Long Island for what ever lay over. Curious of destination since they didn't stop in Toledo or Detroit. I think they may be after another Kone crane since they've proven their service.
Cheers Steamboater66!
