Is the cort having engine issues? I saw them coming into the soo harbor today and there was a lot of exhaust smoke coming out of one stack.also noticed they have been running at a slower speed than they usually run at.

The cort has left sturgeon bay this morning and is showing a superior destination.

Good news! The Stewart J Cort is currently in Green Bay (the bay, not the port) headed for Superior!! Long awaited.

So now I’m completely confused here. Is the Cort back in service or still getting repairs done in Sturgeon Bay? On a separate thread and post, it’s worth noting that a poster posted this “Cort departed Sturgeon Bay on the morning of September 6th and due at Silver Bay on the 8th of September to load.” I’m not finding anything on her as far as on Marine Traffic’s website as it still shows, lists and says she’s still at Sturgeon Bay! Also, nothing as well on the Cort as far as the Duluth Harbor Camera website and Ship Schedule there as well. Can someone please help clear this up as I’m totally confused by all of this! Thanks for any info and Thanks in advance also.

Denny, No offense intended but you are the one causing much of the confusion about the Cort. The apparently incorrect post in the other thread (stating the Cort was back out running) was submitted by you. As to where you got that information, I don't know, but no one else mentioned it here.

Hey Bob, while I can’t answer your question about the Cort, another ship that’s been out of action for a while also is the Manitowoc. She’s been at the Conneaut Creek Ship Repair Facility in Ashtabula now for almost a month with some sort of engine troubles and issues I thought I read and heard a while back? With the Cort out of action, Interlake has been using their ships and making lots of trips then to the Burns Harbor mill most likely making up for the temporary loss of the Cort as I see the Paul R. Tregurtha has made quite a few trips here lately to Burns Harbor.

It was reported weeks ago the Cort has stern tube shaft and propellor issues. Temp repairs were made in superior. It’s a big expensive and time consuming job to fix.

I see the cort is heading for sturgeon bay, must need the drydock to complete the repairs they were trying to do in superior. I noticed there last trip downbound they were going a way slower speed than normal.

It was posted earlier on here that she was having repairs done. I drove by yesterday and she is ballasted down in the bow and the stern is suiting high so I assume it’s something to do with props,prop seals or rudder repairs. Can only see from across the bay there is no other close access to view the ship. Hope this info is what you’re looking for Denny. Stay safe and be well my friend.

The Cort has been at the MERC Dock in Superior since about July 13th or so and I don’t know if it’s for repair work or possibly lay-up? Does anyone have updates on them as far as what’s going on with them? If it’s repairs, does anyone know just what happened? Thanks.
