Re: Cleveland activity 1
Thanks for the info on the cargo. I read about the body in the PD this AM.
Re: Cleveland activity 1
Les,
They are a petroleum based operation.
Hey, they just found a "floater". The GTIII passengers reported it. None of the industrial traffic this morning noticed it apparently. I hope all of their hands are accounted for. RIP.
Homicide was called in. Sounds like they body had bullet holes...just sayin'...

Re: Cleveland activity 1
The Crews folks had competition on the river yesterday. This was not their 'superbowl' evidently because they did not have the River closed to traffic. Dredging activity and the American Republic came on through.
There is a tug barge roundin' the corner under the L/C bridge right now. I don't believe I have ever see it before. It has "A397" on the barge. The Tug is the Rebecca Lynn.

The Maumee and the Sam Laud are 100 yards apart backing down the river right now. The Algoway must still be somewhere up the river as well and that may be why she was so slow sailing up river yesterday. b
Re: Cleveland activity 1
Algoway came into Cleveland today about as fast as I could run backwards on one leg. I saw her from my office window in the mid afternoon and she seems to have just reached the area on the River between West 3rd and the Lorain Carnegie Bridge.
There is also a new post to see:

More access and competition on the river for all.
Cheers

We watched a footer come into Cleveland Harbor during the Browns game last night. It was raining and fog masked the name. It looked like the American Spirit. It looked really good in the fog. We sighted the American Republic leaving Whiskey Island after the game and later saw her at the Carter Rd Bridge. The Barge and dredging activity has moved around a lot.
Re: Cleveland activity 1
Sunday afternoon turned out to be noisy on the River. The film crew returned and shot some action shots of a cabin cruiser chasing a jet ski with a bikini girl on it and exchanging gunfire. They did not create an environment for Saturday night Murray Hill Festival recovery...
Boats seem to be away. We just have dredging and ancient mariners busy on the river.
No news from the mending Port Authority. You could hear a pin drop. Crickets chirping...

Re: Cleveland activity 1
The River has been quiet. They have been dredging from collision bend to Cleveland Ship repair where they are right now. I am not sure if a boat could get by the apparatus they have dredging now.
We went along the river yesterday and noticed the piles and piles of materials that have been floating in this summer. There seems to be a lot more materials piling up than normal in 2010.
The West Third Street lift bridge seems to have 50% of the paint job done. The tarps have been moved to the southern half exposing the new green paint job. The Center Street swing bridge has been shut down for a lengthy period of time for repairs. News teams are banging on the bridge operators' doors to ask why they are still manning the control room 24/7 even after it has been locked open to river traffic and out of commission...story at 11.
Pink Floyd played at the County Fair in Berea and the Feast of the Assumption was in full swing last night in Little Italy up on Murray Hill. We went to the Feast. The 112th edition. We were unsuccessful in our first attempt to get there when a gully washer blew away the afternoon at 4 pm and flooded streets to the point they were impassable. We returned at 7 pm. Great festival. All the Wise Guys were there with the 'Famillia....

Re: Cleveland activity 1
The other night was a treat watching the Maumee lead the American Republic up the river. With the bridge operator "preoccupied" at 1am... We were just talking about watching the two boats sailing up river together over breakfast when we heard a whistle. It is the Mississagi followed by the Maumee right now. Lots of action on the Cuyahoga lately. Good day for boat watchin' in Cleveland. The Sam Laud has been running the Mittal shuttle all weekend. Busy, busy, busy..
The Dragon Boat festival was yesterday on the river.
The movie stunt bags are still up on the Carter Rd Bridge. They are in downtown on E9th filming now.

American Courage is unlikely to see service this year due to the Local 5000 strike. Msany docks unwilling to take here with scab crew.
Re: Cleveland activity 1
I see the Buffalo! Been a while. She is backing down under the L/C Bridge. It seems that we have seen most all of the river class boats on the Cuyahoga this year. Am I missing any?
Re: Cleveland activity 1
There was a movie company down on the Carter Road Bridge all weekend. Seemed like an action movie. They were to blow up a boat but the stunt failed I understand. Looks like they will be back at it again this upcoming weekend. I hope to watch it unfold out my window.

Integrity is exclusively cement hauler, Cuyahoga was loading salt in Old River Bed. Sam Laud was lightering ore from Silver Bay at the Bulk Terminal and then will run shuttles.

Re: Cleveland activity 1
Yesterday afternoon/evening, I was down on Whiskey Island, and saw the Integrity/Ostrander and Lower Lakes' Cuyahoga outbound, and saw the Sam Laud pull into the port of Cleveland (as opposed to going down the river).
So, I can guess that the Integrity was carrying limestone likely from Kelley's, Marblehead or thereabout in western Ohio.
But does anyone know what the Cuyahoga was carrying and where she was going (or coming from) and the same for the Laud?

Re: Cleveland activity 1
Manistee is ever so slow heading up the swolen, muddy, and debris laden Cuyahoga right now.
McKee Sons and Buffalo have been sighted on the river as well. A couple of salties at the 'port as well
No word on any 'Port appointments yet...
A composite search spent the afternoon and evening yesterday at the breakwall area North of Browns Stadium looking for a missing swimmer. The heavy rains of late are not helping the efforts. No word yet.

Sorry to read about your accident. Sounds awful. Just remember though, could be lots worse. At least you're still here to tell about it.
Hope you're well soon.

I'm glad you survived the incident with your body, humor, & writing skills mostly intact, Beecher! Hope you mend quickly.
