SS Alabama

Spoke to the owner of Tower Marine. He said the flag pole was originally the forward mast. He also said the Alabama was unique in having its forward mast in front of the pilot house. Learned that Tower also has the spotlight from the SS Alabama that they are restoring. BobS

The flag pole here at Tower Marine in Douglas, MI is from the passenger vessel SS Alabama. Looking at the photo http://www.mhsd.org/passenger/alabama-mhsd.jpg one can see two masts on the ship. The mast that we have here has vertical slots in it as it also served as the stack for the galley stoves. Would it have been the forward or aft mast of the Alabama? Thanks.
