Lock & Dam #1 on the Mississippi used Monkey Fists on their small docking lines. Got beaned in the head by one once, not paying close enough attention when we pulled into the lock for an up-bound trip.

The show might hold the attention of someone living in the middle of Nebraska more than people living on or around the great lakes or east/west sea ports. Some people have access to the lakes with a very short drive while others have to plan vacations just to see a large body of water.

We had a few Monkey Fists on the Burns Harbor only used one when we were tying up for the Poe down bound and an up bound came by and pulled our stern off the wall before we had her tied up.

As for the show I was wondering what "deadliest catch" Like drama they were going to attempt? In my time working on the lakes I saw one helicopter evacuation, about a dozen snapped mooring lines, a couple of buzzed fishermen get too close to us, and a double waterspout off Sandusky, nothing that would pull ratings :)

There is no date or time for the porgram as yet. All that the ad on TV said was that the program would start during the summer of 2012. Keep your eye on the TV listings in June and July and it will appear in time.

True, but I'm looking forward to seeing things up close and how they work, tugs, lakers, salties. If they start all these scripted little wars between ship mates, like they do in the show Ax Man, you just turn the sound off and watch the ships in action!

All television programs of this type are heavily scripted, and I'm certain that Great Lakes Warriors will be no different. In my opinion, this wave of reality shows has completely ruined television. Because of this, my wife and I have not watched television for over a year, and I will be the first to tell you that I don't miss it one bit. However, if you like this type of show then I hope that it is well produced. Just remember that the networks are selling these programs not as documentaries but as entertainment, a fact that I feel many seem to forget. But then again, if these shows were to portray the real world, and the boredom and repetitive nature of most professions, who would watch them? And furthermore, how could they get sponsors to advertise?

I watch all the History and Discovery shows thanks to My Wife and tivo. I wonder how much drama they are going to create for Us on this new show.It Will advertise for two weeks to wait to the end to see a near miss of a monkees fist being thrown at the new Guy and will He survive. Can't wait.

I know an engineer on a tug in Chicago - they wanted him to go diving on the wheel while the captain stood on deck and yelled about a line being caught in the wheel. The show sounds to me like it's going to be pretty scripted.

Just saw an ad for Great Lakes Warriors, a new show coming this summer to History Channel. Looks like it's about the tug crews on the lakes - brief shots of them working to move the lakers. Anyone hear anything about this?

I saw a commercial for this show while watching Hatfields and McCoys last night. Should be interesting.
