Algoport sank 9/6/2009 so that would be the forebody waiting for her stern. According to the account in the Fleet Photo Gallery, The "new Algobay was fresh out of the drydock in China on October 21, 2009." I assume that means with the stern attached. She reached Portland ME in early January 2010 so she was probably somewhere on the Pacific Ocean when the photo was taken.

I would say it is forebody of Algoma Mariner. The hull was quite a way advanced when the Algoport sank on its way to join up with the forebody. That is the shipyard where she was built.

Interesting find. Certainly does look like a laker. I count 22 hatches and the pilot house seems to be rather large. That could make it from sometime in the mid 1930's to even the early 50's. I suppose one could go through the records to discover which boats were scrapped at this yard. However, I have no guess as to who she might have been. John

Randy can you please post a photo of the hull that you uncovered at the Chinese shipyard? If I see a photo of the hull, perhaps then I might be able to idenfity it or perhaps someone else may know.
