Hello,

The Odanah was launched July 31, 1907. She sailed as a bulk freighter till 1954 when she was renamed Wychem 106 with the intentions of converting her to a barge. It never materialized and she was scrapped in 1956 in Hamiltion, Ontario. Please e-mail me about your photo. I am interested. My address is waforsytheathotmail.com

Odanah was built in 1907 at 440 feet in overall length, by the American Shipbuilding Co. in Lorain, Ohio for the Lackawanna Steamship Co., with the miniging and shipping company of Pickands Mather as manangers. In 1913 Pickands Mather combined several fleets together to form the Interlake Steamship Company, and this vessel and its fleet became part of this steamship company that is still in business today. In 1954 Odanah was sold to another company and was to have been converted to a barge, but this did not occure, and this ship was sold for scrap in Hamilton, Ontario in late 1955. Odanah was part of a series of ships of the same type and size that were once very common on the Lakes, and as far as is known this boat never had any serious accidents. Enjoy your picture and memories.

Does anyone have a brief history of the Odanah? My sister - in - law found an old pic from 1949 with Her husbands grandfather at the Soo locks and the Odanah in the Macarthur lock.
