No amount of strengthening added for one voyage would equate to a salt water full solas class vessel. I do nk know how classification societies allow such a thing. I guess they are only a business now and not there to protect the safety of the crews anymore.

Building these ships in China are somewhat a let down for our industry in Canada/US. Not to mention these vessels are only built to laker standards, meaning 50% strength/modulus to a full deep sea vessel. I hope Algoma/CSL will be paying their crews a danger/risk pay for delivering these ships half way around the world in waters they are not built for.

They're strengthened for the ocean voyage.

I don't mind the style. We have some on the lakes that look somewhat like it. What bothers me is that she should have been build in the USA or Canada. the economy over here could sure use the work. We have all the qualified people.

I agree. They are better looking lakers. The Algoma ships are missing the laker touch.

Not a bad looking lady as far as modern lakers go. The gearless versions of the Trillium lakers might end up being even easier on the eyes. Kudos to CSL for choosing a classic and classy naming scheme for these ships.

The unlicensed crew members joined the ship last week. She was supposed to load the ballast stones last wednesday (15th). After that, they have to weld all the hatches on deck for her trip.

That's all I can say because that's all I know.

Has anyone heard yet when the CSL's new build Baie St. Paul will be leaving the shipyard in China and sailing on her maiden trip? Also, what is the status and progress of the Thunder Bay being built in China as well? I have not heard any further news lately on either of these two vessels. Anyone with information on these two ships I would greatly appreciate. Thank You.
