Magpie was the Abitibi name.
She was bought by Hindman Transportation and renamed Dana T Bowen in 1966, payment to Dana T who wrote a family history for the Hindman family in exchange for having the tug carry his name.
Purvis renamed her in 1975.

Could you send pictures? What shape is the Ex-Kam in? Long-term layup, abandoned, or sunk?William Lafferty wrote:The *Kam,* as *El Conquistador,* never got farther south than Coos Bay, Oregon, She had been there since 2002, was there last year, and may still be there.

No, this particular 'Kam' was a larger tug and has definately been sold overseas.

Re: Former Abitibi tugs
Are talking about the tug Kam picture here? This was taken at Purvis Marine West Dock in 2009. I'm pretty sure she was there this year too.

Former Abitibi tugs
I'm looking for information on the tugs Abitibi used to operate on the Great Lakes, specifically, the name of the tugs which are now used by Purvis Marine. I know there were five:
Abitibi- now a tour boat in Vancouver
Kam- last heard of as a passenger boat in S. America
Nipigon- to Florida as 'Florida Seahorse'
Magpie- now operated by PML
and a fifth, also operated by PML now.
I'm guessing it was also named after a river in Ontario. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
