Lake effect snow today.

I am not sure who will be on the shuttle. They do generally rotate throughout the season. Two of them are laid up here now. DA/Pathfinder and the American Courage. I imagine when they fit out they will both be on the shuttle. The piles of ore have to be dwindling down at the rate they have been going at the mills.

I do believe I figured out what they are building next to the Carter Rd. Bridge. They are making the replacement bridge deck for the Columbus Rd lift Bridge. That replacement will sure bring out the cameras when they float it in place. http://www.loc.gov/pictures/item/OH1486/ The West Third Bridge is still closed and the 'valley commerce folks are concerned about access. Closing the Columbus Rd Bridge stirs the pot.

The Science Center is hosting the Titanic Exhibition starting June 1st.

Tall Ships return here this July 3rd starting with the parade of sail.

Mid July brings the National Senior Games to Downtown. They expect 13,000 athletes. They have 8,000 signed up now. It runs two weeks.

The Labor Day National Air show will also bring in some military warships again! Oh boy, more Moosemilk!

Any word as to when the shuttles will start and who will be doing them? Also does the Alpena have steam up yet or showing any signs of fitting out yet? Thanks for any information.

A coast Guard vessel sailed through the ice into Cleveland harbor yesterday morning.

The work on the AC continues here at the winter leasehold of the old GW dock by Great Lakes Shipyard. I dont know what they are building on the west side of the Carter Rd Bridge. Anyone?

There were a few pleasure boats being scrapped in the yard yesterday. They were victims of Sandy.

The American Courage ended the shuttle runs yesterday and showed at the old GW dock like a rock star! Her fans were loud and mobbing all decks! Security, security, security!

One of the last to lay up. They are working on her now. Anyone know what projects they are wrenching on?

Wow, great, thanks for "the rest of the story". I hope the boat gets finished. Seems like it would go through the Lake Erie chop pretty well. They moved it around the same yard a bit today.

Sam Laud sailed straight out the river towards Peele Passage this morning following behind the Oberstar by 30 minutes. Sam is off the AIS grid now though. The American Courage is on the shuttle now and presumed to lay up at the old GW dock. I hope the boat faces up river this time so I get to observe more.

The timing and weather seems to be on the side of the mariner safely getting to home port this winter.

Beecher, is someone not in a very big hurry to complete that boat you said got moved into another yard? You mentioned it has sat in one place for "the last few years".

A music teacher from Akron is building this steel ‘kit boat’, purchased from a company located somewhere in the UK. The kit was shipped to Akron through the port of Baltimore to his home in Copley where for the next 7 summers; he fit and welded the pieces together, in his front yard. After completing the hull, he had the partially constructed boat transported to the old G. W. site in the spring of 2011. During that summer and fall some interior work was preformed. Little or no work was done during the 2012 summer months, as I understand that the owner has lost interest in his potential “future retirement home” and after spending approximately $75,000 on the project to date, has run low on funds. To the best of my knowledge, activity on this “project boat” has been suspended and it’s future is in limbo as evidence by Beecher’s recent pictures. John

Thank you for the information. $75 K is a pretty big hit to take on just walking away from the project. But, if you don't have the funds to complete the project, I guess I'd try to sell it to recapture some of the money.

I noticed some activity at the Yard next to the Carter Rd Bridge yesterday.

The boat under construction that sat next to the bulkhead for the last few years has been moved to another yard across the way.

The Sam Laud is on the shuttle right now. I'll bet the yard prep action here is making way for Sam's layup. I see a crane showed as well.

Missed the LAT again. Oh well. At least I saw her lock down at the Soo this year. That was a nice trip. Might do it again. I May take a trip back to Duluth as well for a little recon too. Still thinking about what to do.

Long time. ;^)~ Yes, It has been cold but warming up now. The AC pic is on the Cuyahoga River at the Carter Rd bridge. We have had a laker lay up at this same location for the last five years. I am just wondering if and/or who may lay up here. We'll see shortly I guess.
