The tug and barge Ken Boothe, jr and Lakes Contender is leaving Bay Ship and at this time they are clearing the downtown bridges heading for Lake Michigan. On Wednesday, the Buffalo was towed from berth 3 and was tied up out on the face

The Speer left Sturgeon Bay this morning after being turned around off of Sherwood Point last night and continued out to Lake Michigan through the ship canal.

At 1530hrs, the Callaway dropped its lines and was ready to leave Bay Ship with the help of two Selvick tugs.

The Phillip Clarke is just entering the Stugeon Bay Ship Canal at 1500hrs, cst. heading out to the Lake Michigan.

The James R. Barker left Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay earlier today and now the Hon. James L. Oberstar is also departing from Sturgeon Bay as I type this report. Anyone know or hear when the Clarke, Callaway and the Speer will be leaving from Bay Ship?

The James Barker spent a night in the channel north of Bay Ship as it took about two hours to tuern it around off of Sherwood Point. Radio traffic indicated there were 35mph winds of the canal piers and the capt. decided to stay in the bay last night. Monday morning, the Barker started to travers the bay and then stopped just north of the Michigan St bridge. It appeared the ice was causing the Barker to swing to the starboard side of the channel causing the Barker not to line up with the channel. It appeared to out of channel on the starboard side. Also at this time, the Selvick tug Jimmy L was towing the Oberstar from its berth. Maybe both of the boats will traverse the ship canal together.

The Algosoo went into the graving dock right away. The docking took time as the ice appeared to be causing problems. Also it looks like the James barker is getting ready to leave as it is in ballast and it appears the Selvicl tugs are pulling the Speer away from the Barker so it can slide out.

The Algosoo spent the night anchored just off the canal in Lake Michigan. She made her way through the canal this morning, passing through the Michigan St bridge around 8:30.

Clarke now expected to leave 3/24. Callaway now expected to leave 3/25.

Any word on when the rest are leaving?

Here is a link to an article in the Door County paper with departure dates, which are always tentative and subject to change. Right now the AlgoSoo is still in the straits and obviously won't arrive Saturday morning. I was originally told it would arrive Sunday morning via the ship canal so that may be more accurate.

I heard the Clarke and Callaway are leaving the yard on 3/23/13. The Speer was going to leave also but it has anchor windlass problems. The Oberstar on 3/24, Buffalo on 3/28, Sykes on 04/04 and the Mcarthy on 4/17 all these were tenative. Thye kaye Barker is suppose to leave Menominee, MI on 3/24. I don't think the shipping channal has been opened yet as I heard from ice fisherman there could up to four (4) feet of ice in some areas of Green Bay.

On thursday, 1530hrs the Paul Tregurtha left Bay Ship northbound out to Sherwood Point and turned around and then traversed the Sturgon Bay ship canal out to Lake Michigan. Prior to the turnaround, the USCG Mobile Bay broke ice in a big circle at the mouth of Sturgeon Bay so the Tregurtha could turn around. The Tregurtha was also assisted by Selvicks tugs. Once through the Oregon St bridge, it appeared the ice was still a little tight on the turn to line up with the channel to the Bay View bridge. The Selvick tug Jimmy L broke the ice so the Tregurtha could make turn and the Tregurtha continued on to Lake Michigan.
