If I can remember correctly in July 1958, I was having a good time stationed at HMCS Stadacona. I was drafted to HMCS Sault Ste Marie which was up in the Great Lakes doing reserve training. In October 1958 we brought HMCS Sault Ste Marie back to Sydney, Nove Scotia, to pay her off. I think I remeber seeing the HMCS MooseJaw, there was 2 mothballed Corvettes at the time that where in Sydney. There was a terrific wind storm one night it hit the Moose Jaw on her Port side she was facing South, the wind was so strong it tore the bollard holding the forward ropes right from the wooden dock, next thing the Moose Jaw was facing west, with this bollard hanging from the ropes. According to the book HMCS Moose Jaw paid off at Sorel, was broken up for scrap in 1949 at Hamilton. I was told the light cruiser, HMCS Quebec, was there at the time, but I did not see her, although she was big enough not to miss her, unfortunately I did.

Sounds like the HMCS Brandon and HMCS Morden fit into this gray area where information is very sketchy. we had hoped to clear up the mystery, but likely time passing has obscured the details.

I agree with what you say, there is a period of time that does not account for the vessels, i read about others that were sold to South American countries, although they were sold for scrap earlier, the writers mean well, but the paper trail goes cold at some point.

Thank you for the info supplied. We have to assume this was the case but hope someone out there, may be able to supply us with more definite info. sightings of the the vessels in Port Dalhousie harbour comes from two very reliable sources, interested in ships

Here is what the Ships of Canadas Naval Forces 1910-2002 replies about the HMCS Brandon and Morden, both were broken up at Hamilton 1946, this could mean they were sold for scrap in 1946, but did not get broken up till later?

HMCS Brandon and HMCS Morden fate?

Wondering if anyone can shed light onto the demise of these 2 Canadian Corvettes, the HMCS Brandon and HMCS Morden. These Corvettes have been shown as sold out of the Canadian Navy around 1945 and sold for scrap at that time. They were seen in Port Dalhousie harbour tiedup into the late 1950's with a photo existing in 1956. Curious to know what their fate was as they obviously survived past 1945. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
