I meant 1942 in my original posting but 1943 is also correct because all three listed individuals were on the Tate for several years. Frank Meno was Captain of the Tate from 1934 - 1946; John Arbter was Chief Engineer on the Tate from 1938 - 1934, and Paul Mikowetz was Chief Cook on the Tate in 1939 and 1942 - 1944.

Captain Meno's last year of sailing was 1946 and he passed several years ago. He was from eastern Michigan and one of his daughters still lives in the St. Clair, Michigan area.

Specific to your original question, Frank L. Meno was Captain and John T. Arbter was Chief Engineer according to the 1942 Great Lakes Red Book.

Thank you very much. I could not recall the name of the Capt, but it was Capt Meno who gave my father a short, one-way, ride on the Tate, down the Snye into Wallaceburg.

Do you know if Capt Meno is still alive &, if so, where he lives? Where he was from?

Could anybody tell me who was on the crew of the Ben E Tate in summer 1942?
