I confess I did not know the difference between flux pellets and acid pellets. Here is info posted by Jody Aho ten years ago:
Regardless of the plant where it's produced, an "acid" pellet is the traditional pellet that does not include limestone mixed in it. Limestone will be added to the acid pellets separately at the blast furnace. A "flux" pellet is one that includes limestone mixed in it as the fluxing agent to remove by-products once it gets to the blast furnace.

They bring ore down from Minnesota and Wisconsin unload in Conneaut, reload it into a few CSL boats and then ship it to Quebec. From there the ore is then reloaded into larger ships for China more than likely. Don't forget also that both Ore and Coal are both shipped from Minnesota and Wisconsin to Quebec, reloaded into larger ships and taken to points all over the world.
This is true about Conneaut. They've even used a few "footers" to transfer cargo directly to the Canadian boats.

Incredible that ore pellets can be made in Minnesota, shipped to
Ashtabula, reloaded on another ship, moved to
Quebec City then be reloaded on another ship and be taken around the world to China and somehow be made into steel that sells for a profit.

The ore at Ashtabula was destined for the mill at Warren, OH. Sadly, that mill is now closed and being dismantled. Just aren't many places they can send it to anymore.

Thanks yak 242. So, it sounds like the pelletized iron ore is the same thing as Taconite Ore Pellets or something else? I think that CSL has also taken the same thing at times from Conneaut as I see a few loads have been taken from Conneaut as well.

Pelletized iron ore. They are loading at one of the slips owned by Pinney.
