I watched the Alder back and ram a couple times while she passed the Callaway over by Port Terminal. It seemed like it took them about a full hour to go 30 feet or so.rcrv wrote:How many feet per day would that be?
Is it just back and forth struggle kind of work?

Adler looked to not go by the Mesaba Miner in the back bay. Must have been that 30 inches of ice.

Alder breaking ice in Duluth
The CG cutter Alder has been breaking ice in Duluth for two days. It took two days to get from their dock in Duluth to get to the Superior Entry. They made it to Barkers Island the first day, spent the night sitting in the channel and then on day two made the Superior Entry and are now heading east on Lake Superior and making decent speed, 8.9 kts when I looked a little while ago. I drilled a hole in the ice near the port terminal and found 30" of ice.
