Cleveland Activity
Re: Cleveland Activity
The Buffalo is on the shuttle.

Re: Cleveland Activity
We woke to having our windows covered really thick in Muckleheads today.
The saltwater ships have been busy. The container shipping to and from Europe has been ramped up to every two weeks. The volume of pipe coming through the Port for a pipeline in southern Ohio has been staggering.
They are running 50 to 70 pipe trucks a day out of there.
The Calumet delivered stone. Here she is in the rain yesterday.
This transient marina behind the Rock Hall opened mid season last year. Jet ski and paddle boat rentals too. It displaced the Goodtime III to the east wall of the E 9th pier during the season. It comes back in the harbor during layup.
The Indians play at noon. The Cavs play next door to them again tonight. We are all hoping they can stay healthy. A win would be a huge party downtown!
Cheers!

Re: Cleveland Activity
Well, it looks like the Honorable James L Oberstar is waiting for the Bulk terminal dock. Lots of wind & hard to stand still on dock 32 for a simple iphone shot of him doing so.
The American Courage is on that Bulk Terminal wall presumably loading for the shuttle now.
The Saltie activity has sure ramped up due to Seaway container shipping. There is a mega yard full of large pipe west of the stadium now. Never seen so much piled up here. They are running large amounts of trucks in and out of the Port daily.
The Brelo trial verdict has the whole City on edge and the safety forces on full alert. They all are required to keep riot gear handy and are preparing and training with many other departments and agencies from all levels. 911 prep., partnerships & evolution sure have us as ready as ever here. Community relations are in full swing too. We have been told to 100% expect out of town visitors to stir the pot. I have expectations & hope we will not go down the riot road. It all still may be weeks away though. We are being very proactive. Cross your fingers!
Cheers.

These are some neat pix, Beecher, and I see what you mean about the smoke from the fire....hope it wasn't anything too serious.
Thanks for sharing scenes from up 'nawth'.;)

Re: Cleveland Activity
The American Courage is on the shuttle today. She sailed by with a salute of sorts to the rowers in the river ahead of her.
This ATB set sailed by shortly afterward. I jumped on my bicycle for a ride this morning. I headed through the warehouse district and up West 6th. I turned right onto Lakeside Avenue and stopped dead in the middle of the roadway. In the distance down the middle of the road was a sight reminiscent of 911. This fire was four miles away.
These choppers were flying about the city today. I guess at them being the Ohio National Guard's civil support team. The Calumet can be seen here as well as the Champlain in the distance. The water intake crib is 3.5 miles out on the right. The lake is like glass right now

Re: Cleveland Activity
I'll get some night activity for you Shirl. I usually encounter the bridge activity. Nothing to do but get out of your car and watch them go by.
I was on the WG Mather yesterday when a volunteer team took in the steering pole. They were concerned over condition. As they brought it on deck it broke in two pieces because of wood rot. They luckily saved all the hardware and are weighing their options on how to restore another pole into service quickly.
If anyone has any suggestions or knows of one in a boneyard that matches, please call Jeff Gadd 216.696.5409

Would love to see those big 'boats' take on that narrow passage. Tight squeeze.
Thanks for your view.:)

Re: Cleveland Activity
The is the Manitowoc under the Carter Rd Bridge at sunrise today.
DA/PF just sailed by and they are at tied up at the stone dock.
The Rock Hall had one helluva shindig at Voinovich Park last night. The fireworks were awesome.
Our attention is now focused on August Georgia's Masters Tournament. Lets see if the kid attacks the course with a sizable lead.
Cheers!

It was the Manitowoc. The Iowa is on the tow.

;-)@4-1-15.
I was awakened at about 4am this morning by the horns of the Carter Rd Lift Bridge. I assumed it was Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder and rolled over. When the sun rose I discovered what looks to be the Calumet at the stone dock getting ready to unload. She is not on the AIS either. It must be a double secret delivery!
Currently, the lake has a very heavy blanket of fog hanging low over the water. The break-wall cannot be seen. Only the very top of the harbor entrance lighthouses can be seen with blue sky breaking open above. Any boats coming in now would look like ghost ships with this rare style of fog.
Cheers!

I agree with that bookworm and I second that as well great job on the April Fool's stuff Beecher. Man I sure do miss the good ole days when they really had the good April Fool's stuff on here and the newspage. No offense to you and your stuff Beecher but, each and every year on April Fool's Day the boatnerd brass sure knew how to do it. Sure do miss that and wish that they would bring that back ever year. Been so long since they did it, I forgot what all was on the April Fool's Day stuff? All I know is you could sure get a good laugh out of it and if you didn't know any better you sure can get fooled as that was the main goal and objective was to fool you!
