The ferry Charles A. Dunning ran between Caribou, Nova Scotia and Wood Islands, PE from 1946 to 1964.
It was built in 1911 by the Fore River Shipbuilding Co in Quincy, MA as the Sankaty and ran between Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket.
Northumberland Ferries Ltd purchased the boat in 1940 but it was immediately requisitioned into the Royal Canadian Navy and not returned until 1945. A major rebuild was necessary to convert it back from a minesweeper, minelayer and loop layer into a ferry again.
It was sold fro scrap in 1964 and broke adrift while en route to Sydney, NS, October 27, 1964 and was never seen again.
