The controls and gauges were out and the open but she really wasn't that noisy with the big engine only turning over about 100 rpm at full speed. She is an old ship that has spent her entire life on the Seaway run from Lake Superior to the Gulf of St. Lawrence. I imagine her ballast tanks are heavily corroded from salt water.
Correct Bud, I have been on many of Algomas vessels and for some reason I was thinking about the Cen and Sound both of these had the 4 Fairbanks, I was on the Algoilse as a visitor as all the other vessels, but not in the engine room on this one.

Algoisle was made redundant because of the power, 4 Fairbanks Morse diesels wich is expensive to run, plus the fact she was made with 1700 tons more steel making her heavier and not a profitable carrier.
I made an error in the power plant Algoisle has a Man K6Z78/155 diesel still her extra weight still stands.

Not painted out at the moment, but this should happen soon, she must be sold like the Canadian Prospector and Agawa Canyon.

Vessels like these that are retired at Montreal are typically sold for scrapping overseas.
