It's about money. If the market was steady/steadier for her carriage, they likely would have built a barge to replace her. At least they are keeping her around for occassional operation.... but for how much longer is anyone's guess.

I have a few questions about the Ryerson along with some ideas and thoughts. First, there has been talk and rumors for years as far as possibly putting a boom on her. My thoughts and ideas are if it could be done, could they add in a middle section and make her longer than 730? Sort of like what they did to the AAA's and also the Lee A. Tregurtha in the 1980's as far as converting them to self-unloaders. Secondly, if they could lengthen and then also boom her, what about then converting her from steam to diesel? Granted, all of this would be a very costly endeavour if it could be done but, USS/GLF and Interlake and a few others did it back in the 1980's so why not try it on the Ryerson or am I just dreaming? Just some ideas and thoughts for the Queen and bringing her back to life I guess.
