Foggy, clammy day along the St. Clair River, as you'll see in today's photos.

On a crisp, clear November day, the St. Clair River saw a near constant flow of ship activity.

American Mariner (Ashtabula) is the first ship I've seen with ice on the hull, since spring thaw.

Get ready to see more. This could be a real icy season with this early cold snap.

Awoke to a full moon shining through the bare tree branches. YES! For the first time in weeks there should be sunshine to add color to the day!

Six hours less of daylight really makes a difference in the number of vessels I can photograph. That makes me extremely thankful for my photo editing program!

Its the early stages of our winter storm and snow is falling, with wind out of the east. In other words, coming across the river from Canada!
I photographed these three closely spaced down-bound vessels and, just for fun, didn't identify them. Its up to you! Sorry, no prizes.

Getting ready for our first serious winter weather. If it comes as predicted, I'll be staying in, reading.

From early morning light to diminishing light, dusk, and total darkness (sigh!), river traffic flowed past Marysville. Throughout the day, clouds with drizzle, snow pellets, and a few snow flakes diminished any really good light.

Thirty minutes at the Bluewater Bridges...

The friendly town of St. Clair, Michigan, located on a sweeping curve of the St. Clair River, has some of the best vantage points for photographing passing ships -- especially down-bounders -- but there is a whole lot more to attract visitors.
This morning, as I waited for the anticipated traffic, I added some local color, to give you a feel for it.

A cold, rainy day over most of Michigan. Couldn't work in my soggy yard, but there was plenty of traffic on the St. Clair River to keep me busy!

After a somewhat foggy morning, Mother Nature kept teasing with sun followed by dark and threatening skies, from one end of the St. Clair River to the other! But there was plenty of ship traffic and no rain.

Saltie traffic is increasing as foreign shippers anticipate good cargoes of the ongoing US and Canadian grain harvest.

A saltie, a freighter, a footer, and a tug. Nice variety today on the St. Clair River. Not surprisingly, weather-wise, we're under a frost advisory as well as the possibility of heavy rain and wind.

Stormy weather the past two days kept many vessels at anchor, but a few made daylight passage on the St. Clair River, Tuesday and Wednesday.

The "Gales of Autumn" have arrived on lower Lake Huron. Morning started out calm enough but, by the time I was finished, I had become a tree-hugger and used my car, a picnic table, and a concrete parking lot barrier to brace myself against the strong ESE winds while holding the camera steady enough to get clear images!
