A big thank you to the JJB for sounding a salute as you passed the Marysville Riverwalk this morning. I really needed that! Go safe!

My "new life" includes volunteering as a member of the Riverwalk Beautification project. Lets me watch ship traffic as I play in the dirt.
This morning, before the rains returned, Algoscotia (Nanticoke) left the Corunna fuel dock. A few small fishing boats were drifting over the tranquil water, and Algoma Transport (Becancouer) was approaching slowly. My first thought was that she was headed to the fuel dock for a fill-up, but that wasn't the case.
I was preoccupied with stuffing dead vegetation into the lawn bag when I heard someone in one of the small fishing boats shout to another, "Get out of the way!" As I watched, the boat in question stayed the course while the other moved out of the channel. I could almost hear the fisherman thinking, "This river is wide enough. That ship can go around me!" Guess the hulk of a ship bearing down on him -- though still slowly -- finally got through and he, too, moved aside. AlgoTrans began picking up speed, without needing to sound a 5-blast salute.
Nothing I could have captured on camera, but sure made me wonder about the "dim wits" captains of our commercial vessels have to deal with every day!

In 2004, my son Michael and I made a trip, starting at the Bluewater Bridges, traveling down the Canadian side of the St. Clair River, and crossing back on the Walpole Island Ferry, to Algonac.
On his 47th. birthday (when it was still very cold and snowy) I determined to make that same trip in his honor, and yesterday's weather made it the perfect day!

Thanks, but there won't be any traveling either. However, as a farewell, I'll post from my trip down the Canadian side of the St. Clair River, made in memory of my son, Michael, who shared the first trip with me, in 2004.

I understand and look forward to any postings from trips you make over the Summer.

To the followers of this thread: Although you know how much I enjoy doing it, with the price of gas skyrocketing to $3/gal. in just a few weeks and knowing tourist season will send it even higher, I have had to adjust spending habits to maintain my ability to pay for the essentials in life and will not be able to continue following and photographing the ships. On any given day, depending on the number of vessels, available light, and whether a ship is up-bound or down-bound, I can travel a minimum of 10 miles and a maximum of 75 to capture the best vantage for the pictures I share. Adding editing time, it involves a chunk of my time and resources.
I want to thank you for your encouraging comments over the years. It's been a fun journey.

From the Lexington Marina, I spotted a down-bound vessel, so I headed back to the beach position I held yesterday. It was quite a shock to discover the winds & waves had changed the area drastically overnight!

Being my curious self, I headed up to Lexington to see the Drummond Islander & barges at work, presumably dredging the harbor. What I found, when I saw the lake for the first time, was that a stiff wind was blowing and no one was working, but I was able to get these shots.

From what I've seen, that "tail" is a pipe to deposit the dredged material right on the shore.

Seeing the AIS speed of 2.5 mph sparked my curiosity. I had to know what was moving so slowly. It was a unique (to me) consist. Can you explain the "tail" and its purpose? TIA

Very interesting vessels in today's traffic on the St. Clair River and lower Lake Huron.

While out on a late afternoon errand, came across Algoma Compass drifting into the Corunna Fuel Dock.

Should have been clearer. This was before I got into digital photography and the results were poor quality.
