If you want to see freighters, I'd suggest a place along the south channel. using your boat, you can take a number of 'cuts' to get to the other channels. the 'down side' to the south channel is the rough water conditions which tend to bang the boats against the docks. that is why most boat owners have a hoist and take their boat out of the water when not in use on this river. i hope this helps a bit.

Fellow Boatnerds. I have my family talked back in to a boat-watching vacation for next summer. After hitting the St. Mary's River in Barbeau for decades, we are looking at something a little closer to home. I am thinking of something on Harsen's Island. We need a dock for our boat (either the NQFC Carver or our jetboat, but I am not certain which channel the freighters take. Is it the South Channel or North/Middle Channel? Thanks in advance. If anyone knows anyone with a place that they might rent, please let me know.
