Absolutley not, the crews have a lot to do and do not have time to chat. It's not like amateur radio where you have people sitting by the radio waiting for someone to talk to.

Hey all, I have a question regaurding Marine Radio Rules. I am a licensed Ham operator and I have a typical uniden marine radio. I was wondering what the rules are as to talking to the boats. I know that if you could do that, one would not be allowed to talk on emergency channels and that one could not talk on service channels such as Soo Traffic, Sarnia traffic, etc. But If I was on shore could I talk on the ship to ship frequencys?
